Bake the cookies according to the specified directions. Let cool completely. Outline the desired cookies in red, white, and blue using stiff consistency royal icing with a #3 tip along with the couplets and pastry bags. Fill in the cookies with soft consistency royal icing using a larger tip like a #5 or #7. If you would like to use sprinkles, put the sprinkles on when the icing is still wet so it sticks. Let dry overnight and serve on a platter.
