After 10 years, one of our family dreams came true! With some strategic planning the five of us amazingly coordinated our full schedules of families, jobs, sports and college life to come together and experience the magnificent beauty Italy has to offer.
With every turn of a corner on an ancient cobblestone street lies a “Mama Mia Moment” that will take your breath away. You can’t even imagine how it feels to walk down a busy Roman street, turn the corner and see the Pantheon in its majesty looking like it doesn’t even fit in the picture you are a part of. My mind was amazed by the architecture, artistry and ability to construct magnificent buildings, churches and cities without the machinery and technology we have today.
The history we’ve learned about for so many years came alive! The Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, the Michelangelo paintings in the Sistine Chapel, the statue of David, sidewalks made before Jesus was born, the Cathedrals of Milan, Padua, Assisi and of course the Vatican City. How many times have you seen St. Peter’s Square on TV? Did you ever dream one day you would be standing in the middle of it all? I could never imagine the exact feeling I would have experiencing this wonderland. I say that God gave me heaven for 8 days.
Lunch time at the Piazza in Florence, Italy
Italy has a culture all its own. The passionate people, the wine, food, architecture, ancient history, artists, geniuses, spiritual life and beautiful landscape that can awaken your soul to want more and more. Is there ever enough Italy? I would love to find out.
We started in Rome and traveled to the Vatican City, Padua, Assisi, Verona, Florence, Venice, Milan, Lake Como, Burano, Bellagio, 11 cities in 8 days. We stayed up late and rose early to taste and experience the pleasures our tour director would enlighten us with every day. 38 of us traveled together, on the streets, in the bus and many magical places in between. We met people in our group from Australia, New Zealand, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Illinois & Russia. All of us came together and were family for our adventure of a lifetime. Getting to know all our new travelling friends was another special gift we received on this trip.
There are no words to communicate the experience. We can only share our pictures and stories to help you to feel the magic that was experienced during this fabulous vacation. Our joy is in sharing beautiful food, desserts and pictures to excite and engage you in the amazing world of desserts and delicacies. Please come along as we blog into the magical world of Italian desserts and savory dishes! Keep coming back for more posts!
