Saint Patrick’s Day Healthy Mint Green Smoothie
New Healthy Saint Patrick’s Day Drink
Does anyone love a certain green shake at a certain fast food restaurant around Saint Patrick’s Day? It’s the best tasting mint green shake you could ever imagine. Now let’s talk about how healthy that green mint shake is. Healthy? Not so much…
How about a Saint Patrick’s Day Healthy Mint Green Smoothie instead? After eating this and noticing you still feel great afterwards, you may never want to crave that yummy green mint shake again, well maybe not as much.
The great thing about smoothies is you get all the power foods in a glass that would normally take a lot of chewing and a long time to eat. This smoothie has 11 different ingredients. You can always alter whatever fruit or vegetable you like. I’ll give you a basic recipe and you can tweak it to your hearts desire! Everything but the coconut milk is GREEN!
This healthy green smoothie has cucumber, avocado, green grapes, a green Granny Smith apple, a pear, spinach, kale, 2 kiwis, a twist of lime, fresh mint and light coconut milk! It would be so easy for me to say a handful of this and a bunch of that but I had to contain myself and get detailed so this recipe could be duplicated. It’s gluten free, dairy free and of course there is no sugar added!
Some smoothies use bananas as a thickener. I don’t like to use bananas because they have a very strong flavor and over powers the whole taste of the smoothie. I like to use avocados as a thickener. It thickens in a creamy way but doesn’t disturb the flavors you want to engage. It’s a bit of a trade off since 1/2 cup of avocados contains 11 grams of fat. It does carry more fat but it’s a healthy fat. We all need fat in our diet, just not an enormous amount and not animal fat.
You’re Kidding Right?
Let’s look at some comparisons:
A small 12 oz. XXXXXX Shake from one of our favorite fast food restaurant contains: ( This was from the restaurant’s website)
- 470 calories
- 14 grams of fat
- 62 grams of total carbohydrates
- 65 grams of sugar
It contains over 30 ingredients! The maraschino cherry itself contains 12 ingredients and some I’ve never even heard of.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not here to bash my favorite shake of all time. I’m here to offer information and an alternative to maybe a more healthier choice.

P.S. Here are some tips for a super smooth blending experience,
- Put all the liquid ingredients and soft fruit ingredients in first.
- Freeze fruit and add. This will make a thicker, colder, creamier smoothie.
- Start blending on low first. This will help chop things up so the ingredients don’t float to the top.
- Use a super good blender. My favorite is the Ninja. I’ve added a link to Amazon that will give you the best price I’ve seen. If you have Amazon Prime you get it with FREE Delivery!
