We’re calling our series Friday FROYO (Frozen Yogurt) Frenzy!
Our first FROYO flavor is Homemade Strawberry Frozen Yogurt. Oh, the beautiful, red, juicy, sweet and flavorful strawberries are now in season. We don’t have to get them from California or Chile or any other state or country but our own. They can be hand picked in the morning and purchased the same day at a farmer’s market or better yet, hand picked by you! The local strawberry difference is so remarkable!
My husband, sister and I went shopping for garden plants and flowers for the yard. We stopped at a strawberry farm and my sister purchased a large bucket of strawberries freshly picked that morning. They were so red and juicy! So amazing!
Father’s Day is coming soon so we decided to make our first recipe with the flavor our Dad loves! He loves strawberries so much he can eat them any time of the day or any day of the year. So Dad, here’s to you and your love of strawberries to start off our FRIDAY FROYO Frenzy! We love you and Happy Father’s Day!
Doesn’t it make you want to take a bite out of one of those fresh picked strawberries?
Ok, on with the recipe… Before you start blending, you will need to freeze your strawberries. Cut them up a little to make for easier blending.
Add all the ingredients in your food processor. We used a blender but soon found out the food processor is the way to go. It’s easier to scoop out of a food processor than a blender. I use an older version that works but someday I would like the one that has a bowl scraper. Click on the links to see what’s on my wish list!
After blending you’ll want to pour it into a container that is freezer safe and cover so it keeps the strawberry flavor fresh.
You could eat the frozen yogurt right after blending. However, it’s more like very cold yogurt and melts pretty quickly but is still super tasty. Therefore I would recommend freezing your FroYo for at least 6 hours or even overnight. Adding the Agave or Honey makes the FROYO not as icy and a lot more creamy.
Your FROYO will be pretty frozen and difficult to scoop. As a result you may want to sit it out on the counter for 10-20 minutes depending on how hot your kitchen is. Letting it rest before scooping will help make the scooping easier and smoother.
- 4 c Frozen Strawberries
- ¾ c Greek Yogurt (We used Non-Fat)
- 4 T Agave or Honey
- 2 T fresh squeezed lemon juice
- Cut up fresh strawberries. Freeze until frozen. You can also use store bought frozen strawberries.
- Put frozen strawberries into a food processor.
- Add Greek Yogurt, Agave or Honey and lemon juice.
- It will take awhile to get creamy. Use rubber spatula and press ingredients down to help blend.
- Sweeten to your desire. Fresh strawberries are usually sweeter than store bought frozen. Start with 4 T and sweeten more if needed.
- After blended and creamy, pour into freezer safe container.
- Cover and freeze at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Let frozen yogurt sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes before scooping.
