Welcome Clark Jackson!! Born on Easter Sunday!!
Just wanted to share a little about us…
Desserts by Juliette was started in 2013 when I quit my job to help my Grandma rehab from an illness that caused her to be in ICU for a few months. She stayed at my parents’ house and I would go there during the day so my mom didn’t have to quit her job. My Mom would work then come home and take care of Grandma at night. I loved the opportunity to be able to help my Grandma and my family and help her to get better. The days were busy with nurses, physical therapy and doctor visits but I wanted to do more.
When I was young I would always help my Mom bake. I was in 4-H Foods for 10 years and I also worked in a very busy bakery during college. All my Grandmas and Great Grandmas were bakers. My Great Grandma on my Mom’s side would bake desserts at Christmas and sell them to her neighbors and friends for Christmas present money. I guess it’s in my blood. Since I’ve always loved baking, I decided to create recipes to help pass time during the days I spent caring for my Grandma. My Mom absolutely loves photography, so she would come home and think my desserts looked so beautiful and would pull out the camera and take pictures. I would create a dessert or two during the day and my Mom would come home and take pictures at night.
One day we started brainstorming about things we would like to do and the blogging topic came up. This is when our blog was born. We enjoyed those days so much in the beginning. Baking, pictures, eating and just being able to spend time together as a family was so enjoyable. My Grandma got better and she was able to go back to her home. She did great for a long time and then she found out she had Leukemia.
A lot has happened since those early days. I started my career working at a hospital. I’ve gotten married and I have a beautiful little girl with another baby boy on the way! Grandma has since passed away. She was one of the sweetest people you would have ever met and we all miss her terribly.
As I mentioned earlier, I have a new baby on the way. With the usual prenatal testing I recently found out I have gestational diabetes. What, how can that be? I love, love, love my sweets! Well I had to get serious and start eating foods that would help keep my sugar levels in check. I’ve always eaten pretty healthy foods but now I realize there are certain foods that are healthy but still raise sugar levels. It’s been a process and I’m finally getting it mastered. I’ve done a lot of research and have had help along the way. The internet and food blogs have been a great resource too.
Ok, so now what? No more . No more delicious bakery treats and cookies. No more sour Gummy Worms! Stop the madness! I realized if I’m going through this gestational diabetes challenge there are other people experiencing the same desires for sweets but have a greater desire/need for good health. With my little bit of research and experimentation I’ve decided to add Healthy Dessert Choices to this foodie blog. I’m always interested in health and helping others find healthy ways to satisfy that sweet tooth would be a great thing. There will still be occasional over the top sweet treats but for a while I will be creating some tasty, healthy alternatives that I hope you will enjoy!
Thanks for visiting our blog and we hope you keep coming back for more,
