Icing Cupcakes without a Pastry Bag
If you are not a professional pastry chef and don’t have every supply at all times in your kitchen. Here is a trick you will love.
Everyone wants to make their cupcakes look professional without having to buy fancy equipment. Here are two ways to make sure your cupcakes look elegant every time.
1. One very cheap pastry item that you really essential need if you love cupcakes is a 1M piping tip. You can find one at Michael’s for about $1.50. You could probably find a whole set of piping tips on-line that are pretty inexpensive as well.
Once you have a 1M piping tip, all you need is a plastic freezer bag. Place the tip inside the bag and cut a hole in the corner about 1/2 inch wide. Push the piping tip all the way down and fill the bag with the frosting of your preference. Zip the bag up and start piping. This will make the frosting look just like the pictures below.
2. If you would rather not buy the 1M piping tip or have trouble finding it, no problem. You use a very similar method. In the corner of your plastic freezer bag, cut a 1/2 in wide hole. Fill the bag with the frosting of your choice, zip the bag up, and start piping. Easy as that. Your frosting will look like the pictures below.
Another nice thing about using a plastic freezer bag is that you can dispose of it right away. I would also suggest purchasing the plastic pastry bags. These are inexpensive and just a nice thing to have in your kitchen for baking. I use mine for everything in the kitchen, even for putting cupcake batter into the cupcake pan. It just makes baking that much faster and easier, so you can get more done in less time.
