Looking for a cute Halloween dessert?
Are you looking for a cute treat rather than a scary one this Halloween season? If so, then Halloween Candy Corn Cupcakes are for you. It looks just like Candy Corn, but in cupcake form. Don’t worry, it’s easier than it looks. I will help you make it look like professional cake shop cupcakes. Not only will they be super cute, but oh so delicious! You can pick from our home-made cake recipes: White Cake and Moist Chocolate Cake or you can use a cake box if you are short on time. Then you can top it with our delicious Italian Buttercream. Nothing is like this buttercream. It is melt in your mouth, super light and fluffy; not your typical frosting. See our no-fail step-by-step instructions.
First, prepare the cake in cupcake pans. For a cupcake like this, I don’t think you need a fancy cupcake holder. You want the attention to be on the decoration and not the cupcake holder. White cupcake holders are my go-to choice. Plus, they are a lot cheaper.
While you’re waiting for the cupcakes to cool, prepare the buttercream. Separate the buttercream into three parts. You will need more yellow than orange and more orange than white. So separate accordingly. Dye the largest portion of buttercream yellow, then orange and leave the smallest portion white. I use gel food coloring for buttercream. The liquid food coloring changes the consistency of the buttercream and no one likes a runny buttercream.
For that desired Candy Corn look
Fill a pastry bag with no tip or fill a disposable pastry bag and cut a large hole at the bottom. Fill with yellow buttercream. Pipe a circle on top of all cupcakes. Then fill with orange buttercream. Pipe a smaller circle on top of the yellow buttercream. Finally, fill with white buttercream and pipe an even smaller circle on top of the orange buttercream. Release slowly to create the long stem on top of the cupcake.
At this point, you might think that it looks a little messy. At least I did. If you want slightly more rustic, than you’ll be golden. However, I like a smooth finish. To make the look smooth, use an offset spatula and smooth around the entire cupcake. If you are right handed, hold the cupcake in your left hand. Slowly turn the cupcake while smoothing out with the offset spatula. You can also use a moistened fine bristled craft paint brush to blend for added smoothness. Repeat for all cupcakes and enjoy.
